First off season he jumped to an 81, started on AHL first pair in his second season. Started him on the 3rd pair of my AHL squad, he was on the second pair by the end of the first year of his contract.
NHL 17 SIGNS FREE
A 32 year old 90+ ovr player coming up on free agency probably has 2 to 3 very productive years left, but you can get a ton for them in trade and keep payroll low. Also, don't be afraid to trade star players in their prime with high overalls. Getting young, high overall players on long, cheap contracts give you the most flexibility for building a dynasty. I have a 24 yr old defenseman making 2.3 million for 5 years who was a 6th round draft pick with low Top 6 potential. Ideally you should always be trading away high 70s low 80s minor leaguers around 23 for draft picks, or in a package for elite prospects. You should be able to build a large prospect pool that way, and not only have young players to fill in your lineup for cheap, but also be able to use them as assets for trades. You shouldn't have a single player on your farm team over 24 and anyone that old (24) needs to be an 80 or above. Medium top 9 forwards and above and low Top 6 D and above that are 22 or younger and over 72 OVR are worth signing and playing. Also, if you want to improve your prospect pool, comb the 2-way free agents on the first day of free agency. Wait until they hit 68+ overall and then sign them. If they are Canadian they go back to junior anyway so it doesn't matter. They don't grow anymore from playing in the AHL at that time then they do being unsigned. Signing an 18 year old with high trade value and high potential but a 59 to 68 overall isn't worth burning a year of their ELC. I am in year 19 of my current franchise run, and have completed several other 25 season runs. Until they approach 70 overall there is no reason to sign them. NHL 17 SIGNS SERIES
The Crunch currently sit third in the AHL's North Division with 13 games remaining in the regular season after Tuesday and Wednesday's series at Utica. Koepke said he'll be heading to Syracuse shortly after squaring away a few academic matters at UMD. “There have been some unbelievable players that have went through and they have excellent people in Hermantown helping to develop those kids and make hockey fun for them.” “It’s special, Hermantown has done a lot of great things in the last year,” Koepke said. Koepke is the third Hermantown Hawk in the last five years to sign an NHL contract, joining Neal Pionk (New York Rangers) in 2017 and Dylan Samberg (Winnipeg Jets) in 2020.
